Preview Pic: I Heart Reversibles!

There was just something about reversible clothes that sent me into wardrobe envy when I was child. I remember a playground conversation that ended in "... and its reversible" before I sulked off wearing my so NOT reversible clothing item (a jacket, I believe).

We have a few new designs ready to hit the virtual shelves of VintageChild:Modern next week and I thought I'd share a preview pic of the All Season REVERSIBLE Hooded Cape today (less a button as I just got back from the craft shop). It's available in EIGHT bright and bold cotton fabrics and reverses to a solid spring blue cotton. My six year old self shouts "Hurray!"

Set the Stage: Easter Bounty

Forget the pastel bunnies and brightly colored eggs. This year, set the stage for your Easter meal with rustic browns and creamy neutrals. Texture is what brings these natural finds to life! Add some bunches and bouquets of daffodils for color and you have the perfect non-traditional setting for your Easter celebration!

A Bit of Tuesday Inspiration From Me to You...

There are many things I should be doing right now. Blogging is not one of them. This week was meant to be dedicated to researching and creating a new marketing plan for PetalPetal, as it feels like time for a bit of a push forward, but I woke up exhausted this morning after spending Monday compiling lists of boutiques and methods of approach.

Many times in life, things are not as simple as we would hope. So I spent the morning refreshing my little head by reading over some of my favorite blogs. Some have a steady following, some are younger. Most are fairly new to me. One I discovered this morning. While they are all written by people with different perspectives and from different backgrounds, they seem to have a common thread... JOY.

If you are in need of a bit of refreshing today, take a moment to browse any of the blogs below...

This blog I just discovered this morning, so first impression is still fresh in mind. This lovely mom-to-be seems to be one of those rare people who CHOOSES joy over fear. I recommend this post or this post, as a start!

As described by Ashley, blog creator, Indie Pretty Projects is about "falling in love with handmade." DONE! Especially after browsing her beautifully curated blog. She also shares sweet little DIY projects like this one and this one.

Brideblu is a lovingly crafted mixed bag of project inspirations, wedding photoshoots and sweet daily musings. I can also tell she throws a mean par-tay!

If there is one thing we all need from time to time, it is a greater focus on the little beauties in life. Tea & chickadees, aka Caren, is happy to oblige. I love that this was the first blog post I read this morning and that she introduced me to Pietari Posti. Many thanks for that!

May We Sleep Here Tonight?

One of my favorite stories when I was a child was "May We Sleep Here Tonight" by Tan Koide.

When I saw this print by hisss, it immediately reminded me of Koide's work and the beautiful illustrations by her husband, Yasuko Koide...
The premise of this sweet story is three little gophers who lose their way during a stormy night in the woods and take refuge in a little cozy home.
They are soon joined by other refugees, rabbits and raccoons, looking for shelter, whom they eagerly admit into the stranger's home. What they don't expect is the owner of the house to catch them mid-sleep in his bed.

His response of compassion and love is truly moving and especially relevant to the children of today who will need to grow up with an unprecedented ability for love without prejudice and mercy, hope and compassion in the midst of chaos.
These endearing little creatures and their sweet story of building community in the face of crisis would be a great jumping off point for any parent looking to discuss with their little ones what it looks like to love your neighbor, regardless of any real or perceived differences.
But perhaps my favorite part of the story is the fact that the owner of the house left his cozy home in the middle of a storm to seek out those who were lost and would need shelter. His proactive desire to offer help and hope to those in need is perhaps the greatest lesson in this classic story.

At one time this book was out of print, but it is now available on Amazon and, I am sure, many other places around the web. I would encourage you to pick up a copy, little ones or no.

Here's To Hoping...

... that every other post doesn't turn into a homage to my little peeps, but really, how cute is this! The chicks brooder is in the middle of my studio, but I can't see into it from my post at my MacBook, so I've about done my neck and back in by ducking under the table to check on them every time I hear a particularly perturbed chirp (this happens often and has so far proved to usually mean someone is standing on someone else, someone has pushed someone else off her established perch or some other form of general chicken social incompetence).

This time, however, there were four peeps chirping loudly in unison. And they sounded angry. I have yet to experience it, but I am assuming I don't want angry chicks on my hands. So I ducked under my work table and this is what I saw...

Now, for the close-up...

All chirping ceased the moment they saw my face. The little buggers just wanted some attention. And who could resist these little faces. Are they sweet or what? Another half hour lost, but really, they're only chicks once!

And for anyone who is not enjoying my insights from my new life as an Urban Chicken Farmer, all I have to say is
GUESS WHAT...
CHICKEN BUTT!

For more on the chicks, read the Chick Chick Hooray series.

The Current View from My Desk, i.e. Why I Can't Get Any Work Done

Yes, that is a chicken crib smack dab in the middle of my studio. And yes, that would be Petal desperately trying to make her escape. My two biggies have just learned how to fly up and perch when the lid is off. Trouble is sure to ensue...

Daphne has now joined the rebel chicken club. Petal is looping the crib. Thank goodness Co Co (not Chanel) and Georgie are not yet circus chickens in training. But they do chirp loudly whenever the biggies fly the coop. Like I haven't noticed...
